July 28, 2022 Instant Pot Beef Recipes

Copycat Instant Pot Wendy’s Chili Recipe

If you’re a fan of Wendy’s chili, you’re going to love this Instant Pot copycat recipe that you can make in your pressure cooker! It’s easy to make and just as delicious as the real thing. Plus, this copycat Wendy’s chili recipe is a lot healthier for you than the fast food version. Give it a try today!

WENDY'S INSTANT POT CHILI

Wendy’s chili is a fan favorite, but it can be unhealthy and expensive to eat out.

Making chili at home is a lot better for you, and it can be less expensive than eating out. Plus, everyone should have an easy chili recipe in their cookbook.

This Instant Pot copycat recipe is just as delicious as the real thing, and it’s easy to make! The ingredients are pantry staples for most people, and it can be thrown together in less than 30 minutes with the help of your Instant Pot.

Ingredients

wendy's chili ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 cans chili beans (kidney and pinto beans)
  • 1 can diced zesty chili-style tomatoes
  • 1/2 white large onion
  • 1 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup beef broth (I like to use 1 teaspoon better than bullion with 1 cup water)
  • 1 tbsp butter

What are some variations of this recipe?

There are lots of different options for serving this recipe. You could add some heat with diced jalapeños, or make it a bit earthy with mushrooms. Crushed-up tortilla chips would also be a great addition. You could add black beans instead of or in addition to the beans that have already been added.

What if I can’t find chili beans?

You can use two cans of dark red kidney beans and two cans of pinto beans mixed with a little bit of McCormick’s chili seasoning as a substitute.

What kind of meat is used in Wendy’s chili?

Wendy’s chili is made with ground beef. You can use any kind of ground beef that you like for this recipe. We prefer to use 93/7 so there is less grease to deal with.

spoonful of wendy's chili

What brand of tomatoes do you use?

We used Del Monte’s brand for this recipe, which can be found at most major grocery stores.

How can I make this recipe vegetarian?

If you want to make this recipe vegetarian, you will want to remove the ground beef and replace the beef broth with vegetable broth.

Can I use tomato juice instead of tomato sauce?

I wouldn’t recommend this substitute for this recipe.

How can I make this recipe healthier?

Honestly, it isn’t horrible to begin with! But if you want less fat and red meat, you could use ground turkey instead of ground beef.

Directions

  1. Set instant pot to the saute feature and brown grown beef – drain excess grease and deglaze the bottom of the pot.
  2. While cooking, chop the green pepper and onion
  3. Add in all the rest of the ingredients except for the butter and stir with a wooden spoon
  4. Cook for 15 minutes on the Chili setting
  5. Natural pressure release for 5 minutes and then quick release the remaining pressure
  6. Mix in butter and enjoy

What is the best way to store leftovers?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I think it tastes best the next day.

Can I freeze this chili?

Yes, this chili can be frozen for up to 3 months. Make sure you freeze it in an airtight, freezer-safe container. We really love Souper Cubes for freezing chili. You can use the code TBM10 for 10% off.

What can I serve with this chili?

This chili is delicious on its own, or you can top it with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, diced onions, sour cream, or jalapeños. It’s also great served over rice or pasta.

We also really love serving it over a nice, big piece of cornbread! And of course, if you want to make it more like Wendy’s, make a delicious baked potato and serve this chili over it with sour cream and chives.

Can I make this in the slow cooker instead?

Yes! You can definitely make this in your crock pot. Cook the ground beef on the stove top before, and then put all the ingredients (except the butter) into a slow cooker. Cook on high for two hours or low for 5-6. Stir in butter before serving.

Can I make a double batch of this recipe?

Absolutely! This recipe doubles beautifully – and you’ll probably want to because everyone is going to gobble up this yummy recipe.

What’s the best way to reheat this chili?

The best way to reheat this chili is in a pot on the stove over low heat. You can also reheat it in the microwave, but it may not be as thick and creamy. You may need to add some water if it’s too thick.

If you are reheating from frozen, you can do this in the Instant Pot! Just add 1.5 cups of beef broth and heat for 20 minutes on manual high pressure.

scoop of wendy's chili

Is Wendy’s chili real beef?

Yes, Wendy’s chili is made with real beef. However, some employees have reported that the beef used in the chili is from hamburgers that were grilled too long and couldn’t be served as burgers to customers.

Does Wendy’s put sand in their chili?

No, Wendy’s does not put sand in their chili. However, it does have silicone dioxide, which is silica. This is an anti-caking product that might be used in Wendy’s chili. All the reasons to make it yourself at home!

Does Wendy’s put beans in their chili?

Yes, they have a combination of beans in their chili.

Instant Pot Hawaiian Meatballs

This easy instant pot Hawaiian Meatballs meal is perfect for all ages – it’s sweet, full of amazing flavor, and it will definitely disappear fast!

A plate of food, with Meatball

Easy family meals are important in the Clark household.

We feel it’s important to have family dinner every night, but it isn’t always easy to have a gourmet, made-from-scratch meal ready at a moment’s notice.

So I love taking “shortcuts” – such as using frozen meatballs rather than homemade ones.

I also love using my Instant Pot, since it makes delicious meals in a matter of minutes, and I can easily convert slow cooker recipes for use in it.

Instant Pot Hawaiian Meatballs

For this recipe, I wanted to make one of our family favorites – slow cooker Hawaiian Meatballs – and make a few adjustments so it would be perfect for our Instant Pot.

Instant Pot Hawaiian Meatballs

I went to the store and bought some Sweet Italian Meatballs from Cooked Perfect® Meatballs, which is my favorite brand of frozen meatballs. They have tons of flavors, such as:

  • Italian Style
  • Gluten Free Italian Style
  • Homestyle
  • Angus Beef
  • Turkey
  • Swedish
  • Sweet Italian
  • All Natural Chicken Meatballs
  • All Natural Homestyle Meatballs
  • All Natural Italian Style Meatballs
  • Three Cheese Stuffed Meatballs

Find Cooked Perfect Meatballs in the freezer aisle of many popular grocery stores!

Instant Pot Hawaiian Meatballs

But I thought the Sweet Italian flavor was perfect for this meal.

This meal turned out absolutely perfect with so much flavor and everyone LOVED it. My boys both asked for seconds, which I always consider a good thing!

We served it over rice, which I thought was the perfect finishing touch on this meal.

What I love even more was how easy it was to throw together. It’s one of those meals that are perfect for those nights when you haven’t planned dinner and you have a hungry family waiting. It’s always a smart idea to keep packages of Cooked Perfect meatballs in the freezer for occasions like this (especially since you can use them for so many things – this recipe, spaghetti and meatballs, meatball sandwiches, etc.). Here are some more creative meatball recipes to have on hand.

I really do think that it’s important to eat together as a family whenever possible. I grew up knowing that family meal time trumped just about anything else, and I’m grateful that my parents always placed a big emphasis on that. I’ve found that my children open up more at dinner, are willing to try new things, and we just enjoy that time when we can just relax and enjoy one another’s company.

This Instant Pot recipe will definitely become a classic in your home soon!

4 Reasons Why Your Instant Pot Won’t Turn on

Instant pots are amazing! They make cooking so much easier. But what do you do when your instant pot won’t turn on? This can be a frustrating problem to have, but don’t worry, we’re here to help. In this article, we will address the different reasons why your instant pot may not be turning on and ways to fix it.

Reasons Why Your Instant Pot Won't Turn on

Chances are if you have an Instant Pot then you love it! But like all appliances, it might be a little finicky at times. And while it’s not the worst thing in the world, it can be pretty aggravating to have something not work properly- especially when you are needing to use it.

And having something not work when you are counting on it to prepare your meal is not ideal. In fact, it’s downright annoying!

But luckily, in most cases if something isn’t working with your Instant Pot there could be several very good reasons for it- and usually, they can be fixed easily.

Why won’t an Instant Pot turn on?

One issue that might come up could be that your Instant Pot is not turning on. Obviously, this would make things pretty difficult to continue.

There are some easy things you can do to try and fix the problem.

Check the plug

One reason why your instant pot may not be turning on is that it is not plugged in correctly.

Check to make sure that the cord is plugged into an outlet and that the machine is turned on. If the problem persists, try plugging the cord into a different outlet.

Check the power cord

Another reason why your instant pot may not be working is that there is a problem with the power cord. If you have another appliance, try plugging it into the same outlet to see if the problem is with the outlet or the cord. If the other appliance works, then you know that the cord is the problem and you will need to replace it.

Can Your Instant Pot Blow Up?

An Instant Pot is a great investment for any home cook. It can help you save time and money, and it’s a great way to make healthy meals. However, it’s important to keep your Instant Pot in good condition to avoid accidents. In this article, we will discuss whether or not an Instant Pot can blow up, and we will give you some tips on how to keep your pot safe and in good working order!

Can your Instant Pot blow up?

One of the most common questions we get about Instant Pots is whether or not they can explode. The short answer is: it is very, very unlikely. So unlikely, that it isn’t something you should lose any sleep over.

However, if you do not follow the instructions carefully or if you do not keep your pot in good condition it is much more probable for the pot to malfunction.

If this happens, it is possible for the pot to release a large amount of steam, which can cause burns.

Unlike traditional pressure cookers, the likelihood of it blowing up is slim to none.

Instant Pot Safety Features

One reason you can trust that your Instant Pot won’t explode is because of the safety measures put into place to prevent that from happening. A few of those safety measures include;

  • Pressure Control
  • Anti-Blockage Vent
  • Safety Lid Lock
  • Temperature Control

How to prevent your Instant Pot from exploding

If you are still worried about any possible explosions with your IP there are a few things you can do to ensure that it is functioning properly. Keep in mind that NOT doing these things doesn’t mean it will explode – they are just best practices to keep your Instant Pot functioning properly and avoid any unfortunate mishaps.

plugged in instant pot
  • Make sure you use a minimum of 1 cup water
  • Avoid it from overflowing by not filling it up over halfway
  • Try not to leave it unattended
  • Be aware that some foods like rice, lentils or beans may expand and cause the pot to fill higher than intended. Keep an eye on those foods
  • Do not use your Instant Pot as a deep fryer

What might cause your Instant Pot to blow up

Again, while highly unlikely, there are a few reasons an Instant Pot might malfunction (and the malfunction likely will not lead to it exploding):

  • The lid is opened too soon
  • Manufacturing defects
  • The vent gets clogged

You can rest assured knowing that your Instant Pot is very unlikely to explode. It certainly can malfunction, though, so it’s important to follow best practices in order to keep it working as best as possible.

So, if you’re looking for a way to keep your food warm for a long time, an Instant Pot is the way to go. However, there are a few things you can do to make sure it stays warm even longer.

How to keep your instant pot warmer for even longer

First, make sure the sealing ring is in place and snug. This will prevent heat from escaping. Second, wrap the pot in a towel. This will help insulate it and keep the heat in.

Following these tips, you can be sure that your food will stay warm for hours on end. So go ahead and enjoy your meal, knowing that it will still be just as hot when you’re ready to eat it!

Why you might keep your Instant Pot on warm

There are several reasons why you might keep your Pot in the warm setting

If you are not ready to eat your food right away, keeping it in a warm setting is a great way to ensure that it will still be hot when you are.

This is especially useful if you’re cooking for a large group and want to make sure everyone can eat at their leisure.

Basically, it will keep your food at the perfect temperature until you are ready to eat!

Does the keep warm button cook your food?

Rest assured, the keep warm button will not continue to cook your food. So once you know your meal is cooked to perfection you can comfortably put it on the warm button and not worry about it drying out or overcooking.

Likewise, never move it to the keep warm button until your food is thoroughly cooked through. Putting it on the warm setting in hopes to have it continue to “cook up” a bit would not be a safe idea especially if you are cooking meats that need to be cooked at a certain temperature.

The Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe is the perfect solution. This recipe is simple, only requires a few ingredients, and cooks in the Instant Pot in minutes. You’ll have a delicious and healthy dinner on the table in no time!

The combination of the honey, garlic and soy sauce provide the best sweet and salty combination that you will find yourself craving!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce, coconut aminos or gluten-free soy sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • red pepper flakes, for garnish
  • chopped green onions, for garnish

What is the difference between soy sauce and coconut aminos?

Coconut aminos are a great soy sauce replacement for people with soy allergies or who are trying to reduce their sodium intake. They have a slightly sweet taste and are made from coconut sap. Soy sauce is made from soybeans, wheat, salt, and water. It has a more savory flavor and is higher in sodium.

Can I use chicken tenders instead of chicken breast?

Yes, you can use chicken tenders instead of chicken breast in this recipe. You will just want to cook it for a little bit shorter – about four minutes.

Can I use frozen chicken?

Frozen chicken will work just fine. However, the cooking times will need to be adjusted:

  • 25 minutes for frozen chicken breasts
  • 7 minutes for frozen chicken tenderloin

What is the best kind of honey to use?

The best kind of honey to use in this recipe is mild honey, such as clover honey or wildflower honey. You could also use a flavored honey, such as lavender honey or orange blossom honey. Do not use a strongly flavored honey, such as buckwheat honey, because it will overpower the other flavors in the recipe.

We prefer to use a raw honey from a local source.

Do I have to use so much garlic?

This is definitely a garlic-lover’s dish! However, if you’d like to cut back on it, you could use half of what the recipe calls for without hurting the integrity of the dish.

Can you substitute honey with sugar?

Sometimes it’s tempting to substitute honey with sugar. It’s less messy and cheaper.

But for this recipe, stick to the honey. (Pun intended!)

Honey adds more liquid and gives a better, homemade flavor.

How to Make Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken

Make sure that the pot is filled with at least 1 cup of water before cooking. Another reason could be that the ingredients weren’t added in the correct order.

The chicken should always be added to the pot first, and then the sauce ingredients should be added afterward. If you’re still having trouble with the burn notice, please contact Instant Pot Customer Support.

Tips for Success

Always Brown The Meat First

When browning the meat, the Instant Pot should be set to the to Saute setting.

  1. Let it heat up until hot.
  2. Then, crumble in ground beef or ground sausage. (Or a mixture of both!)
  3. Add in seasonings and diced onion.
  4. Once the meat is cooked, remove meat mixture from Instant Pot using a slotted spoon.

You Need to Get the Water/Food Ratio Right!

  • Add 1 1/2 cups of water to the Instant Pot Inner Pan.
  • Scrape up any browned bits of meat gently.
  • Turn Instant Pot off. (yes, really!)
  • Add a trivet to the Instant Pot right over the water. This keeps the noodles from getting too mushy!

When Layering, Keep Ingredients Uniform

If you added 1 cup of cottage cheese to the first layer, make sure you add one cup to the second.

Keeping layers uniform gives a better cooking and eating experience!

Use An Aluminimum Foil Sling

Having an aluminum foil sling helps you remove the lasagna without dropping it and creating a big, nasty mess!

Don’t Forget to Broil Your Lasagna After!
If you love that toasted look and flavor many restaurant lasagnas have, simply broil your finished lasagna for a few minutes.

Place lasagna on a cookie sheet and place it under the broiler for three minutes.

That’s it! Super simple!
